Obama’s taskforce not want antis want

President Obama is setting up a taskforce led by Joe Biden to examine the issues in the wake of the Newtown murders.

The antigunners cannot be happy with this.  They want nothing less than a blanket endorsement of their all their proposals backed up with concrete action from the Administration and Congress.  It goes back to what I posted earlier, that the gun control movement is dying out.  If they cannot move a legislative agenda now it’s over for them, at least on the national level.

State of the State

Gov. Cuomo is being coy on gun control.  It looks like we’re going to have to wait until January 9 to see what the deal is.

The end of the gun control movement

The gun control movement is dying.  It has been for quite some time.  While it will never entirely go away, it has been steadily sliding towards irrelevance.  The horrific murders in Connecticut will not change that.

The usual suspects have come forth, spewing the same hate they always do.  Rep. Jerry Nadler, displaying all the dignity and class New Yorkers have come to expect from him, called for President Obama to “exploit” this atrocity for political gain.  It will not work.

Dinosaur media outlets will try and blame “the gun lobby” for lack of movement on the antis agenda, asserting they either pay off and/or intimidate politicians into silence on the issue.  Those delusions may provide a degree of comfort for those in places such as the New York Times editorial boardroom, but hiding from the truth will not make it go away.

And that truth is this:  Our county has had a debate on guns and the gun control side lost that debate big-time.  Guns sales are up across the county and black rifles are the most popular sellers.  More and more people are carrying concealed firearms for personal protection.  Mainstream television programs from Top Shot and American Guns to Pawn Stars and MythBusters feature firearms.  When you can go out and buy ammo just for shooting zombies, you know that our side has won the culture war on guns.

The antis and their media allies will continue their shrieking and teeth-gnashing, further embarrassing themselves and accelerating the movements political demise.  The sooner that happens the better.

More people buying and carrying

Black Friday gun sales were so strong that NICS crashed.  Here is more evidence that more and more people are buying and carrying guns:

One down, one left to go

With Steve Saland conceding defeat, Democrats now have a 33 seat majority in the State Senate.  Ballot counting is still going on in SD-46.

How long the power sharing agreement the GOP has with the IDC will last is questionable.

No agreement on legislation

It doesn’t look as if the Senate GOP and IDC have come to any agreement regarding microstamping or other gun legislation.

Big win in Illionis

Coming on the heals of our defeat in the 2nd Circuit, the 7th Circuit has ruled that Illionis prohibition on carrying concealed firearms is unconstitutional.

The antis are going to shit themselves over this.

Committee chairs

This mornings Daily News reports:

“… The newly created Senate governing coalition consisting of Republicans and a breakaway faction of five Democrats may give some committee chairmanships to Democrats who aren’t part of the power scheme, sources told the Daily News …”

A good indication of where the gun bills will be going is who gets to appointed to chair Codes.

Pre-filed bills

Jose Peralta has pre-filed a dozen antigun bills thus far in the Senate.  I predict he’s going to be a real pain next year, trying to draw as much media attention to himself for his Queens BP run.
